Adopt an animal!
Cannon Hall Farm in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, is a family-run farm and award-winning visitor attraction that has a commitment to high quality farm stock and preserving the continuation of some of the world’s most rare breeds.
We currently have two programmes that aim to increase the numbers of two highly at risk animals – Shire horses (which could become extinct within ten years if steps are not taken now) and the Swiss Valais sheep breed, made famous by Shaun the Sheep.
Your sponsorship will contribute to the welfare of all our amazing animals on site.
Animal adoption is the unique gift that keeps on giving, a great birthday present for adults and children alike.
Whichever you choose, remember: by adopting one animal at Cannon Hall Farm, you’re helping them all.
We introduced category adoptions rather than individual animals to make sure this could happen. You adopt the whole herd so that there’s plenty of them to see when you visit.
Please make sure to note on checkout which name you want the certificate to be in.
Your free tickets will be posted out with your adoption certificate – but you do need to book in in advance before your visit.

The biggest question now is: who will you adopt?
Our Reindeer
Our hard-working reindeer Prince joined the farm a few year’s ago – but their time with us hasn’t been smooth sailing.
If you watched the Episode of the Yorkshire Vet, aired in Autumn 2020, you will have seen that Prince had an emergency operation to remove his eye.
He’s now joined by Roger, Olaf and Sven.
Adopt a ReindeerOur Shire Horses
We are so proud of our Shire horses who are really coming into their own.
Adopt a Shire HorseOur Highland Cattle
Our award-winning Highland cattle are the pride of our farm.
Fern and Ted won rosettes at the Yorkshire show and Emma and Hetty are also quality animals.
Adopt a Highland CowOur Donkeys
Is there a more famous donkey on earth than Gary the Donkey, our regular on The Yorkshire Vet?
Our herd is made up of Gary, his son Derek and many lovely females.
Adopt a DonkeyOur Shetland Ponies
Ably led by the cantankerous Jon Bon Pony, our Shetland herd are full of personality.
They are tiny but mighty and don’t shy away from bossing the big horses around.

Our Goats

They have been seen millions of times around the world thanks to their goat playground and they are the bounciest fellas on the farm.

Our Llamas
Our Meerkats
No-one has a bigger personality than our meerkat family – originated by the first four John, Paul, George and Ringo.
There are currently two meerkat pups on site.
Adopt a MeerkatOur Reptiles
Our reptile house opened in 2018 and every creature within came from a reptile rescue centre, where they had been taken from domestic homes that weren’t suitable for them.
From Piggle the soft shell turtle, to Dave the Iguana with attitude, these fellas are some of the most popular on the farm.
