Cannon Hall Farm Shop at Cawthorne near Barnsley was winner of a national butchery competition in 2009. The competition, which was organised by the English Beef & Lamb Executive and open to every farm shop in the country, was fiercely contested and a final was held at the three counties show ground near Worcester. Robert Webb who still works at the farm was also runner up in 2011.

The finalists were each given 2 identical primal cuts of beef and had to make a minimum of 8 retail products and form a display. Each contestant was given 1 hour and Robert Webb, a supervisor at Cannon Hall Farm Shop, managed to make 15 products in the allocated time and came away with the award of Best Beef Butcher.

Managing Director of Cannon Hall Farm Robert Nicholson said ‘we are thrilled to have won an award that was open to every farm shop in the country, Rob did a great job but this is the butchery standard that we work to at Cannon Hall Farm and I think it is a reward for everyones hard work.
